The famous Washington, D.C. cherry trees, a gift from the city of Tokyo in 1912, bloom every year in early April.  The trees surround the Tidal Basin by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.  The Washington Monument too can be seen reflected on the water as petals from the blossoms fly on the breeze.  The five foot wall surrounding the basin is tricky to negotiate but once down, paddling is a good way to avoid the crowds.
